Blessed is this movie.
Are you ready to embark on a cinematic journey so unexpected, so emotionally resonant, that you’ll be left in awe, questioning your own spirituality and contemplating the mysteries of life? Or do you just want a good ole time watching LaKeith Stanfield become the next Messiah?
Let’s find out!
Going into this movie, I had only seen a commercial that thankfully didn’t give much away, as the best way to enjoy this is to go in completely blind.
All you need to know is that LaKeith Stanfield plays a fraudster in the biblical times and that this movie slaps harder than a grandma after she asked you to stop running in her house.
If you saw ‘The Harder They Fall’ this movie is going to be your cup of tea. Everybody put up numbers as far as performances goes, from RJ Cyler as the best friend, to certain big name celebrities that are in the movie that I won’t spoil for you.
Ironically, this movie felt like a cross between a music video with it’s excellent soundtrack, produced by Jay-z, adding to each scene, and an extended episode of Atlanta with it’s unique visual moments, and blending of historical and modern dialogue. Basically, the movie is quotable as all hell.
The pacing never let me get bored, and even when the movie ended I was still hoping for a post credit scene just to get some more time in this excellently crafted world. I might just go play some Assassin’s Creed to fill that void.
The sets were beautiful, the script had heart, and the soundtrack had soul. This is a rare example of taking a clever script, adding spectacular visuals, and marrying it to a well directed cast.
If this movie was marketed better, it would stand tall with the likes of ‘Black Panther’, and ‘The Woman King’ in the eyes of the general public.
This is a good film… to add to the collection!
I’m going to give The Book of Clarence, 9.5 apostles out of 10.
So what did you think of The Book of Clarence, did you like it? Did you love it? Did you hate it? Did you even see it!?
