Baldur’s Gate 3 Lead Writer Reveals Favorite Line as a Subtle Callout

Lead writer of Baldur’s Gate 3, Adam Smith, shared his favorite lines from the game, focusing on a particularly subtle and self-referential moment involving the character Minthara. Smith, known for his emotional and layered writing, highlighted lines from significant scenes such as Karlach’s reaction after Gortash’s death and the conclusion of Astarion’s storyline post-Cazador’s death, which he finds cathartic and meaningful.

However, Smith’s standout moment involves Minthara, a character often killed by players rather than recruited. He explained that Minthara’s dialogue, where she says, “If I’d never met you, if you’d never given me a chance, I’d just be one more corpse on your crusade,” serves as a nod to the players’ choices and breaks the fourth wall. This line acknowledges that players frequently kill Minthara instead of allying with her. Smith expressed pride in creating a character with hidden vulnerability and depth, making this line particularly dear to him.
