Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog and director of The Last of Us, has hinted that his next project could “redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming.” In an interview coinciding with Sony’s corporate strategy presentation, Druckmann expressed excitement about his upcoming game, which he described as perhaps his most thrilling project yet.
Druckmann noted the increasing appreciation for gaming across all age groups, a shift highlighted by the success of The Last of Us TV adaptation, which helped bridge the gap between gamers and non-gamers. He emphasized that the show’s success has spotlighted the rich, immersive experiences gaming can offer, which fuels his enthusiasm for the new project.
While Druckmann has teased new projects over the past few years, details remain scarce. He mentioned that Naughty Dog had “several cool things” to reveal back in March 2021, before Sony canceled The Last of Us multiplayer spin-off. By early 2023, he confirmed that Naughty Dog’s next game had been decided upon, with other projects also in development.
