Former Dragon Age Lead Predicts Good Things for Gameplay in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

David Gaider, a former lead writer for the Dragon Age series, believes that the upcoming Dragon Age: The Veilguard moving closer in style to Mass Effect was “inevitable,” and he expects this shift to benefit the gameplay.

BioWare recently announced the rebranding of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf to Dragon Age: The Veilguard and revealed that 15 minutes of gameplay will be showcased on June 11. The new game will allow players to bring along two companions in combat, similar to the Mass Effect series.

Gaider thinks this new combat focus, where players can direct their companions with an ability wheel, suggests a more action-oriented style for the game. While he personally feels less enthusiastic about this change, he is still optimistic about the overall gameplay experience. He also commended the writing team, expressing confidence that they will excel in delivering a compelling narrative.

This announcement aligns with BioWare’s confirmation that The Veilguard will be a purely single-player, story-focused RPG, dropping any multiplayer elements previously considered.

Fans can look forward to a new standalone story set in Thedas, with a new lead character and a cast of companions, as BioWare aims to refocus on creating an immersive single-player experience. The upcoming gameplay reveal is highly anticipated, especially given the long development period and the franchise’s devoted fanbase.
