The 10 Best Movies of 2024
2024 has been an incredible year for movies, packed with so many releases that it was impossible to catch them all. Most of the films I saw were good—some even great—but only a select few left a lasting impression. These are the movies that I’ll revisit over and over, the ones that hit me on a molecular level as a cinematic nerd. Here’s my list of the 10 Best Movies of 2024, along with a few honorable mentions.
10. The Beekeeper
Starting strong at number 10 is The Beekeeper. For a January release, this film was surprisingly enjoyable. It delivered fast-paced action and an intriguing premise, making it a fun way to kick off the year. While it didn’t reinvent the genre, it was a solid entry worth watching.
9. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
At number 9, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes brought stunning visuals and exceptional world-building to the table. While its slower pacing might not be for everyone, I found it compelling and immersive. The CGI? Absolutely Ape-Mazing. It reminded me why I fell in love with this franchise in the first place.
8. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Coming in at number 8, Furiosa delivered everything you could want from a Mad Max prequel. Chris Hemsworth’s performance was fantastic, the action sequences were exhilarating, and the gritty, lived-in world felt incredibly real. After watching this, I had the sudden urge to replay the Mad Max video game.
7. Abigail
Number 7 goes to Abigail, a film that’s best experienced without any prior knowledge. It’s a wild ride filled with surprises, making it one of the most fun movie experiences of the year. If you can avoid spoilers, you’re in for a treat.
6. Smile 2
Smile 2 lands at number 6, proving that horror sequels can outshine their predecessors. This film improved on the original with better scares, tighter storytelling, and a genuinely entertaining experience. It’s rare for a sequel to elevate a franchise, but Smile 2 nailed it.
5. Alien: Romulus
Breaking into the top 5 is Alien: Romulus. Directed by Fede Álvarez, this film brought back the claustrophobic tension and terrifying atmosphere that made the Alien franchise legendary. It’s a modern sci-fi horror masterpiece that deserves every bit of praise.
4. The Book of Clarence
The Book of Clarence takes the number 4 spot as one of the year’s most surprising hits. This film came out of nowhere and left a lasting impression. Sometimes, the best movies are the ones you never see coming.
3. Bad Boys: Ride or Die
At number 3, Bad Boys: Ride or Die reminded us why Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are such a beloved duo. This action-packed sequel was pure fun, blending nostalgia with fresh energy. After this, all is forgiven, Will.
2. Dune: Part Two
Taking the runner-up spot, Dune: Part Two was a cinematic feast. From its stunning visuals to its epic storytelling, this film was everything I hoped it would be. It set the bar high for blockbuster season, and now I can’t wait for Part Three.
1. Deadpool & Wolverine
Finally, the number one spot belongs to Deadpool & Wolverine. This movie felt like a personal love letter to comic book fans like me. It was hilarious, action-packed, and everything I wanted. Simply put, it’s a masterpiece of its genre.
Honorable Mentions
While these films didn’t make the top 10, they’re still worth mentioning:
- Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire: Fun but bogged down by excessive cameos and nostalgia. Paul Rudd’s charm saves the day.
- Red One: Solid entertainment but lacked that special spark.
- Blink Twice: A good movie, but it faded from memory almost immediately.
Final Thoughts
2024 was a packed year for movies, and while many were enjoyable, only a few truly stood out. These films didn’t just entertain me; they left a lasting impression, the kind that makes you excited to share them with friends.
