The 10 Worst Movies of 2024

2024 was a year filled with cinematic highs and lows, but today we’re diving into the absolute stinkers. From missed opportunities to outright disasters, these films left me questioning why they even exist. Here are my picks for the 10 worst movies of 2024—and a few dishonorable mentions. Let’s get into it!

10. Tarot

A cool trailer set up high expectations, but the movie itself was utterly forgettable. A rated-R version could have salvaged it, but as it stands, it’s just another example of wasted potential.

9. Madame Web

This film felt like a relic from 2004. It was bad, but in a way that made it oddly enjoyable as a hate-watch. If you’re nostalgic for early 2000s superhero films, this one might scratch that itch—just don’t expect quality.

8. Borderlands

As a fan of the video game series, this movie was painful to watch. The characters felt too old, the PG-13 rating neutered the franchise’s signature chaos, and the whole thing just felt off. Take notes from Deadpool on how to do R-rated comedy-action right.

7. Subservience

The only reason this movie was on my radar was because of a viral Reddit clip. The concept—a robot wife that turns homicidal—had promise, but the film didn’t capitalize on it. It’s a forgettable indie sci-fi that pales in comparison to films like Triangle or Upgrade.

6. Imaginary

Blumhouse is hit or miss, and this one was closer to a miss. The concept of confronting trauma was intriguing, and the bear was cool, but the movie overall was just okay. A rated-R version with scarier kills might have elevated it.

5. The Watchers

There was almost a good movie here. Almost. The twist was a letdown, and the film just lacked that extra spark to make it memorable. Still, it’s worth a watch if you’re curious—just don’t expect greatness.

4. Ricky Stanicky

John Cena is usually a delight to watch, but this movie was a snooze fest. It felt like it was building toward something big, but where it landed was firmly in the realm of mediocrity. Cena’s charm couldn’t save this one.

3. Night Swim

This felt like a weak episode of Black Mirror stretched into a feature film. The concept had potential, but the execution was corny, especially the way they defeat the antagonist. Honestly, I barely remember this one—and that’s not a good sign.

2. A Quiet Place: Day One

The trailer promised suspense and high stakes, but the actual movie delivered boredom. The pacing was off, the tension was nonexistent, and the vibe didn’t match the trailer. A complete letdown.

1. Joker: Folie à Deux

The original Joker was a masterpiece, but its sequel? Not so much. The director seemed determined to alienate fans of the first film, and they succeeded. Watching this made me appreciate Jared Leto’s Joker—and that’s saying something.

Dishonorable Mentions

Civil War: A good movie overall, but the marketing lied. I expected an action-packed spectacle and got a drama instead. Still salty about that.

The American Society of Magical Negroes: The first half was solid, but halfway through, the movie switched genres in a way that felt jarring. I’m tired of being tricked by misleading trailers.

Venom: The Last Dance: Sony, just stop. Even Tom Hardy seemed over it in this one.

Mean Girls (2024): Surprisingly decent, but I needed to fill out this list. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible either.

Argylle: The first three-quarters were serviceable, but the twist was too silly to take seriously. Also, this film wasted Henry Cavill’s talents.

Final Thoughts

2024 had its fair share of duds, but what really stood out to me was the sheer amount of trailer trickery. I love trailers—they’re like sizzle reels that get me hyped for what’s to come. But when the final product doesn’t match the hype, it’s hard not to feel cheated.
