Dead Island 2 is an upcoming action RPG that will be published by Deep Silver and developed by Dambuster Studios. It is the third major installment in the Dead Island series and a sequel to the 2011 video game Dead Island.
This game takes place a few months after the events of the previous games and is set in the city of Los Angeles, which has been placed under quarantine due to a zombie outbreak. Unlike its predecessors, Dead Island 2 is set in an urban environment. It will be released on April 21, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
The development of Dead Island 2 has been challenging due to changes in the studios involved. Yager Development was originally selected to develop the game in 2012, but they were replaced by Sumo Digital in 2015. Later, Sumo Digital was also removed from the project and replaced by Dambuster, an internal studio of Deep Silver, in 2019. The game has been in development since it was announced in 2014.
