Atari is Charging $1,000 for a 50th Anniversary Box Set

10 CLASSIC ATARI TITLES ARE INCLUDED IN THE SET IN SPECIAL LIGHT-UP CARTRIDGES.

For $999.99, Atari is Offering a 50th Anniversary Box Set of Physical Atari 2600 Games.

Ten actual Atari 2600 games, each in new packaging, are included in the collection, which was made available as part of the current Atari 50 festivities.

The games cost $99.99 each when they were first sold separately in recent months, and all 10 have subsequently been exhausted. Therefore, this $1,000 box set is the last opportunity for Atari fans to purchase them before having to pay more on the secondary market.

Atari is only producing 100 of the set, though.

The 10 games included in the box set are:

  • Adventure
  • Missile Command
  • Warlords
  • Super Breakout
  • Crystal Castles
  • Haunted House
  • Yars’ Revenge
  • Centipede
  • Asteroids
  • Gravitar

New artwork, a hard enamel souvenir pin, a collectible patch, and a personalized acrylic cartridge stand are all included in each individual game box.

Each cartridge has been created to light up when the Atari 2600 is turned on and is compatible with the original Atari 2600 hardware.

Atari aficionados who may not want to spend $1,000 on 10 cartridges may be better served by Atari 50, which was much acclaimed when it was released in November.

More than 100 games from Atari’s variety of platforms, including early arcade games and games for the 2600, 5200, 7800, Lynx, and Jaguar, are included in the collection.

The game’s creator, Digital Eclipse, describes its five interactive timelines as providing information on the games that established the current industry  through interviews, archive photos, special source material, and behind-the-scenes footage.

Fans may perhaps choose the $199.99 Lego Atari 2600, a full-size Lego recreation of the original Atari gaming device.
