The release of the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection has stirred up controversy due to the incorporation of a modder’s work without proper permission. Despite earlier assurances from Aspyr, the studio behind the remaster, that they would not use anyone else’s “code or content” without consent, the launch version of the game included a mod that reintroduced Asajj Ventress as a playable character.
The mod in question was created by iamashaymin, who originally reskinned Aayla Secura to include Ventress in the PC version of Battlefront 2. However, Aspyr’s release used an outdated version of the mod, resulting in Ventress using Secura’s animations and lightsabers. Although this issue has been patched, it has sparked criticism from both players and the modding community.
iamashaymin expressed disappointment with the remaster’s release, describing it as “a total mess” with numerous issues, including incorrect textures and unresolved bugs. The Battlefront modding community, initially hopeful for improvements in the remaster, now shares similar sentiments, citing missed opportunities for bug fixes and improvements.
This controversy adds another layer of scrutiny to Aspyr, especially as the studio was recently removed from the Knights of the Old Republic remake project amid rumors of delays. As players await further updates and improvements, the community hopes for a more polished and respectful approach to future releases.
