Breaking news from the streaming world: Disney Plus just gave the boot to a new series after only one season on their platform.
Yep, you heard it right. The Disney Plus streaming service, known for resurrecting all sorts of fan-favorite shows, decided to pull the plug on a fresh spin-off series after just a single season.
According to the inside scoop from Variety, the series got the green light from Disney in early 2022 and hit the screens in May 2023. But here’s the kicker—it’s already getting the axe. Adam F. Goldberg, the co-creator, spilled the beans in a statement about the cancellation.
Goldberg made sure to shout out the cast and crew, calling the whole gig “the most joyful and collaborative experience of my career.” Now, for fans of The Muppets Mayhem, don’t start singing the blues just yet. Goldberg, along with fellow co-creators Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes, promises that more Muppets magic is in the pipeline.
So, what was this short-lived show all about? Brace yourself for The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, and Lips — going on a wild, music-filled quest to record their first-ever studio album. With a boost from a go-getter music exec named Nora (played by Lily Singh), the old-school Muppet crew clashes with today’s music scene in their quest for musical glory.
The cast of The Muppets Mayhem featured the likes of Lily Singh, Tahj Mowry, Saara Chaudry, and Anders Holm, with performers like Matt Vogel, Bill Barretta, Peter Linz, Dave Goelz, David Rudman, and Eric Jacobson bringing the Muppets to life. They even scored celebrity cameos, with Peter Jackson making a guest appearance.
Goldberg and Barretta pulled double duty as executive producers, with Yorkes co-executive producing. The show was a joint production by ABC Signature and The Muppets Studio, delivering a mix of old-school Muppet charm and modern-day music mayhem.
