The upcoming Dragon Age game, previously known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and now titled Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has been confirmed as a purely single-player, story-focused RPG. This news comes after initial considerations for a multiplayer component were scrapped.
In an announcement, BioWare general manager Gary McKay confirmed that while the team explored various gameplay concepts, including multiplayer, they ultimately decided to focus on creating a single-player experience. McKay stated, “The time we spent experimenting and iterating gradually taught us a lot… this work, and the amazing support from EA, helped us re-focus on creating an incredible single-player game with all the choices, characters, and world-building you’d expect from us.”
Project director Michael Gamble further clarified on Twitter that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not feature any multiplayer elements, emphasizing its commitment to single-player storytelling.
Additionally, BioWare announced that official gameplay footage of The Veilguard will be showcased on June 11, featuring 15 minutes of gameplay from the beginning of the game. This new installment in the Dragon Age series will bring players back to Thedas for a standalone story with a new lead character and a cast of companions.
This decision aligns with the series’ history as a single-player RPG, despite Dragon Age: Inquisition‘s inclusion of a four-player co-op mode. Fans can now look forward to an immersive solo experience in the upcoming release.
