Bill Slavicsek, the narrative director of Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), claims that ZeniMax Online is the most prolific AAA game studio, producing content equivalent to more than 10 single-player games over the MMO’s 10-year history.
In an interview during ESO’s 10th anniversary celebrations, Slavicsek explained that the studio’s approach from the beginning was to create single-player narratives within an MMORPG framework. This methodology, he believes, has helped establish the intricate storytelling that ESO is known for.
Slavicsek proudly noted that ZeniMax Online’s consistent quality and frequent updates are unparalleled in the industry. He likened their decade of releases to the equivalent of ten single-player AAA games, each with a significant level of quality.
ESO continues to expand with yearly updates that add approximately 30 hours of new story content, matching the depth of many single-player games. The latest expansion, Gold Road, introduces a new Daedric Prince, a first in ESO’s history. Slavicsek detailed the careful collaboration with Bethesda to ensure the new storyline fits within the established Elder Scrolls lore without disrupting existing narratives from Oblivion, Morrowind, or Skyrim.
Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road will be released on PC on June 3, and on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One on June 18.
