11 Bit Studios has announced a delay for the release of Frostpunk 2, moving its launch from July 25 to September 20, to ensure that the survival city builder meets player expectations from day one. The developers are taking additional time to incorporate essential features and improvements based on feedback from a recent beta test.
The beta, available to players who preordered the deluxe edition, allowed players to experience 300 in-game weeks of sandbox mode. While the response was generally positive, it lacked the enthusiasm expected for the sequel to a highly acclaimed and influential city builder. Players’ feedback highlighted several areas for improvement, prompting the studio to push back the release date.
In a statement on Steam, 11 Bit Studios explained that the delay would allow them to “properly do justice” to the feedback received and “guarantee the best possible experience at launch.” The additional time will be used to enhance various aspects of the game, including the workforce management system, UI overhaul, adding more direct-use abilities for crisis management, and allowing the reshaping of districts post-construction.
One significant new feature is “Zoom Stories,” which lets players zoom in to observe citizens up close as they go about their daily lives. This feature aims to strengthen the player’s connection to the city, addressing one of the beta’s criticisms about feeling detached from the city and its inhabitants.
The developers acknowledged that this delay might disappoint some fans but emphasized their commitment to delivering a complete and polished experience. “We believe these additional features are something you deserve to see in-game on day one, not in a patch added after the release,” the studio stated.
Leading up to the new release date, 11 Bit Studios plans to share behind-the-scenes updates and more details about the upcoming changes. They aim to show how player feedback has driven improvements and enhancements in Frostpunk 2.
