An Action-packed Expedition into the Monster-Verse
Godzilla and Kong are back! But this time, its War! Will Godzilla and Kong be able to set aside their differences for the greater good to make a box office smash? Or will the film spend far too much time focusing on the human characters and leave the monster fighting as bookends to the already long in the tooth Monster-Verse?
Let’s find out!
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the latest in the ever growing monster-verse franchise that started with 2014’s Godzilla. Surprisingly, it’s Godzilla who sort of takes a back seat in this film even though he has top billing. Don’t get me wrong, he is in the movie, the focus is just more so on Kong, the Iwi, and thier adversaries.
This would be a weird jumping on point if this is your first Monster-Verse movie as all the characters are already establish and gave their best efforts in other past movies. This movie was really pretty to look at, but unless your really care about certain side characters and their back stories, the middle 3rd of this movie is going to be a bit of a slog to get through.
Of all the returning characters, it’s Brian Tyree Henry that really steps up to hold down those monotonous scenes of exposition. His charisma on screen is more than enough to carry the rest of the human cast through their journey into the hallow earth. It’s just a shame we won’t see the return of Millie Bobby Brown.
Overall the movie itself was fine, the pacing and soundtrack were all fine. The CGI was good. If you’re already a fan of this franchise, then this is a recommended watch. If you’re just a casual fan, I’d say start with Godzilla (2014) or Godzilla: King of Monsters, first, to see what you think of these kinds of movies. They seem to get crazier and crazier after each one. One could argue that they have jumped the shark, but I’m here for it.
This is s good film… no texting required!
I’m going to give Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, 7 money paws to the chin out of 10.
But those are just our thoughts, what did you think of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, did you like it? Did you love it? Did you hate it? Did you even see it!?
