Indie Developer Regains Control of Game Listings from Warner Bros Subsidiary

In a positive turn of events, indie developer Owen Deery announced on Twitter that Warner Bros. subsidiary Adult Swim Games will not be “retiring” his game, “Small Radios Big Televisions,” from digital storefronts as previously anticipated. Deery revealed back in March that Warner Bros. intended to remove his game and others from digital platforms, sparking concerns among developers.

Initially, it was suggested that affected developers could republish their games independently. However, this would have required them to rebuild their presence on platforms like Steam from scratch. In response, Deery made his game freely available for download.

Now, after over two months, Deery shared the news that ownership and store listings for his game will be returned to him. While it remains uncertain if other developers will receive similar opportunities, this development offers hope for the dozens of games under the Adult Swim Games label.

The delay in the delisting process, which was initially expected to begin after 60 days, suggests a potential shift in Warner Bros.’s plans. Game Developer reported on the message sent to developers about the impending retirements, and as of the 65th day, the affected games remain available on their respective platforms.

This update highlights the importance of community support and engagement in advocating for indie developers facing challenges in the digital marketplace.
