The strong cast of Iron Man, which included Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Jon Favreau, Jeff Bridges, and Gwyneth Paltrow, helped to transform the film’s founding legacy into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The majority of them persisted through the MCU’s Infinity Saga’s conclusion; some even went farther and into the interim, unnamed Phase 4. The recasting of Colonel James Rhodes, however, was a significant change that became effective right away following Marvel’s launch (and its instant Disney takeover).

When Terrence Howard finally opened up in an interview four years after the event to share his perspective, the sour aftertaste showed that the wounds had not yet fully healed.
