Just six months after his conviction for domestic assault and harassment, Jonathan Majors was honored with the Perseverance Award at the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards in Beverly Hills. During his emotional acceptance speech, Majors acknowledged his imperfections and expressed gratitude for the support he received amid his legal troubles.
The actor, known for his roles in “Creed III” and “Lovecraft Country,” was sentenced to one year of domestic violence counseling following his conviction. Despite maintaining his innocence throughout the 19-day trial, Majors was required to complete a 52-week program as mandated by a New York judge.
On stage, Majors reflected on the significance of perseverance, emphasizing persistence despite difficulties. He highlighted the dichotomy faced by Black men in society, often seen as either superheroes or supervillains, and shared his personal journey of faith and resilience.
Majors’ legal issues significantly impacted his career, resulting in his removal from future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects and other film roles. However, he recently secured a lead role in Martin Villeneuve’s revenge thriller “Merciless,” marking his first new project since the conviction.
In his speech, Majors expressed heartfelt thanks to those who supported him, including his family and a network of Hollywood peers such as Will Smith, Tyler Perry, David Oyelowo, and Whoopi Goldberg. He concluded with a poignant message to his daughter, vowing never to take the light of support for granted and urging others to persevere through their trials.
The ceremony, hosted by Tiffany Haddish, also honored several other figures, including Cardi B, Jasmine Crockett, and Ben Crump. Majors’ speech underscored the importance of community and support in overcoming personal challenges.
