THEY WILL PARTNER WITH CAPCOM TO DEVELOP UPCOMING ADAPTATIONS OF THE FIGHTING GAME SERIES.
The film and TV rights to the Street Fighter series have been bought by Legendary Entertainment.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary, the studio behind Dune and Godzilla vs. Kong, will collaborate with Capcom, the owner of Street Fighter, for future adaptations.
The fighting game franchise marked its 35th anniversary in 2022 and has sold 49 million units, as per its Japanese publisher’s records till December 2022.
The Street Fighter franchise has had various adaptations, but its two live-action movies in 1994 and 2009 failed commercially and critically.
The first movie starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Raúl Juliá as General M. Bison, and Kylie Minogue as Cammy, while the second movie, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, featured Kristin Kreuk as the title character.
The upcoming release, Street Fighter 6, will have 18 characters and launch on June 2 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam.
Notably, it includes World Tour mode, enabling players to create their character, explore open-world areas and learn moves from existing Street Fighter characters.
The Deluxe Edition of the game comes with four extra characters, four more colors for the characters, and 4,200 Drive Tickets that players can use to customize their fighters via an in-game store.
