Mean Girls (2024) Review

A Grool Reimagining

Have you ever thought, “What if Mean Girls were a musical?” Would it be good? Would it be bad? Would it finally make fetch happen?

Let’s find out!

The iconic 2004 classic gets a 2024 reboot with a twist—enter the world of ‘Mean Girls (2024),’ now a comedy-musical that delivers on both nostalgia and unexpected song-and-dance numbers.

And when I say unexpected I mean it, the trailers advertised  this as just a comedy reboot, and right out the gate this was a musical front and center. From what I googled, they said it only had a few songs, so I was like, “Ok that’s not so bad.” That was a lie, as soon the movie starts we are breaking out into song and dance.

The first two songs were hot trash, but once Regina George hit the scene everything changed. From the moment Reneé Rapp is on screen, it’s clear to see who the star of the movie was now. She is a baddie and that’s all I’ll say on that. While Rapp steals the show, the ensemble cast collectively delivers solid performances, bringing new life to the beloved characters.

The Cast of the 2024 Mean Girls Movie: Here's How You Know Them

The plot revolves around Cady, a transfer student navigating the intricate web of high school cliques. Despite the length, the film keeps you engaged, especially with dazzling songs and the fun dance numbers.

Staying close to the original, the ending sees a modern twist with a touch of explicit language. This reboot is recommended, but with a caveat—it caters to a specific audience. If you loved the original, enjoy musicals, or just fancy something different, ‘Mean Girls (2024)’ might be your jam.

The film, though unexpectedly good, comes with a generous dose of cleavage for high schoolers that might raise a few eyebrows. While it didn’t tug at the heartstrings, it provided an enjoyable watch, proving that musicals and teenage drama can indeed coexist.

Mean Girls' (2024) Review: The Musical Remake Is Too Nice to Bite

I’m going to give Mean Girls, 6.7 plastics out of 10.

Compared to recent watches, ‘Mean Girls (2024)’ falls behind ‘Beekeeper’ but outshines ‘Night Swim.’

So what did you think of Mean Girls, did you like it? Did you love it? Did you hate it? Did you even see it!?
