Media Molecule, the studio behind Dreams and LittleBigPlanet, has confirmed the layoff of its curation team, marking the end of live curation support for Dreams. The layoffs are part of previously announced restructuring efforts.
The decision comes as Media Molecule shifts its focus away from live support for Dreams, a process that began last September. Despite discontinuing most live support, the studio had continued to offer curation services in-game and online through various channels. However, with the latest layoffs, these services, including The Impsider, will no longer be supported.
The studio plans to end live support for the DreamSurfing playlist and DreamShaping creation workshop in mid-April. Instead, it aims to transition Dreams into a self-sustaining platform by launching new playlists and implementing a Dreams Recommender playlist to provide personalized recommendations.
While Media Molecule is ending live support for DreamShaping, it assures creators that essential kits from both the studio and the Dreams community will be made available to aid in creation.
Despite these changes, Media Molecule intends to continue supporting Dreams through streams and social channels. The studio also reassures players that there are currently no plans to take Dreams offline, ensuring continued access to the platform and its vast library of user-created content.
