Mindful Marvels: Dakota Johnson’s Surreal Journey as Madame Web

In Madame Web, Dakota Johnson takes center stage, expressing her reliance on director S.J. Clarkson during the filming process, which she describes as “utterly surreal.”

Within the Marvel film, set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, extensive CGI effects breathe life into the on-screen world, offering Johnson a unique cinematic encounter.

Having never engaged in a project where scenes unfold against a blue screen with simulated explosions, Johnson found the experience surreal. In an interview with EW, she shared, “I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and fake explosions are going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion. That to me was absolutely surreal.”

Despite initial uncertainties about the outcome, Johnson trusted director S.J. Clarkson implicitly. She commended Clarkson’s unwavering dedication to the project, saying, “I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an okay job!’ But I trusted [Clarkson]. She works so hard, and she has not taken her eyes off this movie since we started.”

In Madame Web, Johnson assumes the role of Cassie Webb, a paramedic with precognitive abilities. Reflecting on her reservations about portraying a superhero, she admitted, “I got sent this script, and I was like, ‘I don’t know about me being a superhero.’” Intrigued by her character’s mental prowess, Johnson added, “I felt like, ‘Oh, I really would love to see that superhero. I would love to see a young woman whose superpower is her mind.’”

Scheduled for release on February 14, Madame Webb boasts a star-studded cast, including Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and Zosia Mamet.
