FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki is well-known for his love of poison swamps, a recurring element in his games from Dark Souls to Bloodborne. In a recent interview with CNET, Miyazaki admitted that he may have gone “a little too far” with the poison swamps in Elden Ring. However, he assures fans that he has learned from this experience and made adjustments in the upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree.
“In terms of the poisonous swamp, I guess in the original Elden Ring I went a little too far. So I’m trying to take some learnings from that,” Miyazaki explained. He hinted that the poison swamp in the DLC would reflect these learnings and be more tailored. “I’ve tried to imagine different ways I want to die as a player or be killed. So that expression of myself has been imparted into the poison swamp.”
The DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, which goes live on July 21, promises to deliver more of FromSoftware’s signature challenging gameplay. Reviews for the DLC have been glowing, with praise for its stunning visuals and intense combat scenarios. While the poison swamp might be less prevalent, Miyazaki assures that there are “many ways to die” in other parts of the game.
Fans eager to dive into the new content won’t have to wait long. As the release date approaches, anticipation is high, and players are preparing for the next chapter in the Elden Ring saga.
