Netflix Cancels ‘Bright 2’ After Oscars Slap

The Oscars slap is the gift that just keeps on giving, not all gifts are good ones. Netflix has reportedly decided to cancel the long awaited sequel to one of their biggest hits of 2017, ‘Bright’. This is allegedly because of lead actor, Will Smith, and his behavior at the Oscars.

In the works was a National Geographic nature series called ‘Pole to Pole’, which will follow the 53 year old actor as he travels from the North and South Poles. The series was expected to start filming in three weeks, but now production has paused until fall 2022.

Sony is alleged to have canceled an upcoming project Smith had in the works as well. ‘Bad Boys 4’ is still in the works but will be significantly delayed.

Bright 2 was in the middle of looking for a director after David Ayer was not set to return to the sequel.

Since the Oscars incident, Will Smith has apologized to slapping Chris Rock on stage after he made a joke about his wife’s shaved head. He also stepped down from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was given a 10 year ban from the awards program for his troubles.

Chris Rock has not yet made more than a passing comment about the situation as he is still processing the event that went down.
