Nintendo Movies in Development: Zelda, Luigi’s Mansion, and More

Rumor has it that Nintendo and Illumination are joining forces to bring some beloved Nintendo titles to the big screen. According to the reliable information shared by Daniel Richtman, the duo is reportedly working on movie adaptations of Luigi’s Mansion, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and even a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It’s important to note that this is all speculative and should be taken with a grain of salt.

While a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a logical move considering its massive box office success, the potential adaptations of Luigi’s Mansion, The Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong might pose more of a challenge. Luigi may be loved by fans, but he has yet to prove he can carry a movie on his own. As for Donkey Kong, his standout performance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie suggests he’s primed for his own cinematic adventure, especially with Seth Rogen already attached to the project. Adding Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong to the mix could make for a wild and lucrative jungle escapade.

And of course, there’s The Legend of Zelda, a highly anticipated adaptation that has been teased in various forms over the years. While some may question Illumination as the best studio for the job, the prospect of a Zelda movie announcement would undoubtedly thrill fans. Perhaps the mischievous Koroks could bring a touch of Minions-like humor to the tale, but maintaining a darker tone with a hint of whimsy would be ideal.

As we ponder these potential collaborations between Nintendo and Illumination, it’s important to remember that this is all speculative for now. But that shouldn’t stop us from letting our imaginations soar. Who would you cast as Link? Should he have a speaking role? And who could lend their voice to Princess Zelda?
