In a recent interview with SFX magazine, actor Pablo Schreiber, known for his role as Master Chief in the video game adaptation Halo, expressed regret over a controversial plot point in the first season. The moment in question involved Master Chief engaging in a romantic relationship with Makee, a human-turned-covenant agent portrayed by Charlie Murphy.
The decision to explore a romantic connection between the iconic Master Chief and Makee sparked heated discussions across various online platforms. Schreiber, reprising his role as John-117 for the upcoming second season, revealed that he vehemently opposed this narrative direction.
In the interview, Schreiber disclosed, “The decision to make the connection between Makee and John a romantic connection was a huge mistake. I felt it was a significant error at the time, and I argued against it and fought against it. But I am who I am. I don’t write the scripts. I only give my opinion. It wasn’t listened to.”
Despite Schreiber’s reservations, the romantic subplot made its way into the storyline, creating controversy among fans. The actor, however, emphasized that he does not have control over the script and can only offer his perspective.
Halo season 2 is set to release on Paramount Plus on February 8.
