Sony has announced that the PS5 is now its most profitable console generation, achieving this milestone in just three years. During Sony’s 2024 Business Segment Meeting, it was revealed that the PS5 has generated $106 billion in sales and $10 billion in operating profit since its launch in late 2020. This surpasses the PS4, which held the previous record with $107 billion in sales and $9 billion in operating profit over its seven-year lifespan.
Despite initial part shortages due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PS5 has rapidly outpaced its predecessor in sales and profitability. As of April 2023, the PS5 had sold 38.5 million units worldwide. Sony aims to reach 100 million lifetime sales for the console.
