Rumor has it that Sony’s PlayStation division is hard at work on a rival to Xbox’s Game Pass. The current rumors say that it should be announced as early as next week. The service was previously rumored to be launching in the spring, but we don’t know its release date just yet. The subscriptions service will combine PS Now, which is their game streaming service, and PS Plus, which is the company’s online subscription, into one package.
The current rumors suggest that in order to entice gamers they will launch with a, “splashy lineup of hit games,” and have multiple tiers for gamers to choose from. This is something that Xbox has been doing as well and it’s about PlayStation’s catching up.
Further reports are that this new streaming service should bring back backwards compatibility for PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. They filed a patent last year for using backwards compatibility and at the time it was thought this was coming to the PS5 as a featured update.
