Bethesda’s highly anticipated Starfield Shattered Space DLC has faced a tough reception since its launch, as Steam reviews have dropped to the dreaded “Mostly Negative” category. Despite high hopes for the expansion, fans have expressed disappointment with the amount of content and the perceived lack of value for the $30 price tag.
At release, Shattered Space struggled to make a significant impact, receiving a lukewarm “mixed” rating on Steam. Over time, however, the feedback has worsened, with many players criticizing the DLC for its limited quest offerings and failure to address core issues present in the base game. One reviewer lamented that for a major faction like House Va’ruun, the DLC doesn’t offer enough content, especially considering its hefty price. Others voiced frustration that the expansion doesn’t improve gameplay features like ship building, space combat, or outpost management.
Negative reviews also highlighted that the DLC’s new content is confined to a single planet, offering little to no integration with the rest of the game world. Fans compared it unfavorably to earlier expansions from Bethesda’s catalog, such as Skyrim’s Dawnguard, which introduced broader mechanics outside of its core questline. One reviewer bluntly stated, “No new features, no fixes… What a joke,” reflecting widespread dissatisfaction.
Even the more positive reviews were lukewarm, with one player describing the expansion as “more Starfield” but neither significantly good nor bad. Currently, Shattered Space has over 1,600 reviews on Steam, with only 34% of them being positive, making it one of Bethesda’s lowest-rated expansions to date.
