Taylor Swift has once again achieved a remarkable feat with her latest release, “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” a reimagined version of her original 1989 album. Within just one week of its release, the album has skyrocketed to become the best-selling album in the United States for the entire year of 2023.
Impressively, the album has not only dominated the sales charts but has also claimed the number-one spot on the prestigious Billboard 200 chart, along with leading the charts for vinyl albums and streaming albums during the same week. This accomplishment has established Taylor Swift as the sole artist in history to achieve six number-one album debuts, each selling over one million units.
What makes this achievement even more notable is that “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” has outperformed the first-week sales of the original 1989 album released in 2014, marking a historic milestone as the first “Taylor Version” to enjoy a more significant debut than the original.
This remarkable journey began when Taylor Swift faced a significant dispute with her manager, Scooter Braun, who had acquired Big Machine Records and gained control of her music catalog. In response, Taylor Swift initiated the process of re-recording her songs and subsequently naming these reimagined albums with the addition of “Taylor’s Version.”
Her previous re-releases, such as “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” “Red (Taylor’s Version),” and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” have all enjoyed exceptional success.
“1989 (Taylor’s Version)” encompasses all the songs from the original album, and it also introduces five new vault tracks, including “Is It Over Now?,” “Say Don’t Go,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Suburban Legends,” and “Slut!” The original 1989 album, released in 2014, featured iconic tracks like “Shake It Off,” “Bad Blood,” “Wildest Dreams,” “Blank Space,” and “Style.”
As Taylor Swift’s re-recording project continues to captivate audiences, only two albums remain in her catalog awaiting the “Taylor’s Version” treatment: her eponymous 2006 album “Taylor Swift” and “Reputation” from 2017.
