The turtles in a half shelf are back! And this time they’re more witty, more goofy, and way less chill. Can these pizza eating ninjas save the day, or should they just stay the shell home? Let’s find out!
If you’ve seen one of these movies before then you already know the drill. Our four heroes are back looking fresh as ever with a very ‘Across The Spider-Verse’ art style. The result is a vibrant look as they skate through the city, grappling with the age-old struggle of wanting to fit in. Trust us, even mutant ninjas deal with peer pressure.
The plot makes you think this movie is about the turtles taking on a mysterious crime syndicate, which is true, but this film has its true story about a group of teenage outcasts that just want to be accepted into society.
Some of the most emotional moments come from their father figure Master Splinter, played by the brilliant Jackie Chan. He sees what his kids are doing and tries to shelter them from the cruel outside world by throwing them a surprise pizza party only for them to do what teenagers do and leave him hanging. There was a twinge of sadness when he threw the party, but it’s like a glimpse into every teenager’s mind – just wanting to hang out with their friends instead of their family.
The fact that they used teenagers in the voice cast for our leads, lends to the authenticity of the dialogue and it was a smart choice reminiscent of when Sony cast as Teenage Tom Holland for the role of Peter Parker.
The pacing is as smooth as Mickey is with his nunchucks and the soundtrack makes you wanna dance like no one is watching. Whoever picked this soundtrack….chef’s kiss.
Ice Cube’s iconic voice was a bit dialed back in this film, I’m sure there are plenty of lines of dialogue that were cut from the movie with him cursing that they couldn’t use and I would love to hear it personally.
Would we recommend this? Heck, yes! Whether you’ve been a fan since the ’80s or you’re just dipping your toes into the turtle pond, “Mutant Mayhem” is an absolute blast. We laughed, we got a little misty-eyed, and we remembered why we fell in love with these shell-covered heroes in the first place.
The themes of Mutant Mayhem are about acceptance, and well, we’re pretty sure the next generation will be all about embracing their inner geeks and quirky selves. They’ll know it’s cool to be themselves and that they’re not alone in this crazy world.
Bottom line? “Mutant Mayhem” is a radical ride that brings the turtle power back. It’s like a nostalgia trip mixed with new adventures. The visuals pop, the jokes land, and the turtles are as relatable as ever. So grab your katana blades and skateboards – it’s time for some serious fun!
This is a good film….to add to the collection
We’re giving Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 8 and a half shells out of 10. The movie was so good that it could have been a bit longer and nobody would mind.
