Toys For Bob, known for its work on Skylanders, Spyro The Dragon remakes, and Crash Bandicoot 4, has reportedly struck a deal with its former corporate owners at Microsoft shortly after gaining independence.
The studio’s journey has been tumultuous, with most of its team diverted to support Call of Duty Warzone after publisher Activision’s acquisition. Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, layoffs ensued, resulting in around 86 job losses at Toys For Bob. Despite this setback, the studio recently announced its independence from Activision.
Initially exploring potential partnerships, Toys For Bob has now reportedly signed an agreement with Microsoft for a new game, as per a report from Windows Central. This move, while unconventional, may be attributed to the studio’s management not aligning with Activision’s corporate structure.
According to Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty, the new project is expected to be similar to Toys For Bob’s previous work, hinting at another colorful platformer featuring a beloved mascot. While specifics remain undisclosed, speculation among fans suggests possibilities ranging from new Spyro or Crash Bandicoot titles to a potential Banjo-Kazooie revival.
This development highlights the studio’s resilience amid corporate upheavals and sets the stage for a potentially exciting collaboration with its former owner, Xbox.
