In an inspiring act of kindness, actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry is stepping in to assist 93-year-old Josephine Wright, who was at risk of losing her cherished South Carolina home, a family heirloom since the Civil War era.
Perry is constructing a 5-bedroom home for Josephine Wright in South Carolina to replace her current residence, where she lives with her grandchildren. This new home is intended to resolve a bitter land dispute that threatened to displace her.
Construction on the new home is set to commence in the following weeks, pending the necessary permits.
Josephine Wright’s legal battle began when the Bailey Point Investment Group expressed an interest in purchasing her land in Hilton Head. She, however, was determined not to part with her family’s cherished property, which has been in their possession for generations. The Bailey Point Investment Group subsequently resorted to legal action in an attempt to claim her property.
Wright explained to WSAV-TV how BP received town approval to develop 29 acres of land adjacent to her home. She declined BP’s offer to purchase her home, and, as a result, alleges that she faced harassment from the group. This harassment ultimately led to a lawsuit aimed at seizing the property that had been in her family since the Civil War era.
One of Josephine’s grandchildren initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her legal expenses. An update from September on the GoFundMe page revealed that a tree had fallen on her home, causing significant damage to the roof.
In a remarkable demonstration of generosity, Josephine Wright is set to receive a brand-new home, thanks to Tyler Perry.
