Ubisoft has canceled “The Division: Heartland,” a free-to-play game set in the “Division” series, to concentrate on other projects such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six. The announcement was subtly included in Ubisoft’s year-end financial report.
“The Division: Heartland,” announced three years ago, was intended to offer a new perspective on the franchise. It was described as a free-to-play standalone game, incorporating survival elements and set in a small American town. Despite ongoing closed beta tests and a planned release window of 2021-2022, the game faced delays and development challenges.
In the report, Ubisoft stated its decision aligns with its strategy to streamline operations and adapt to market trends. Resources from Heartland will be redirected to more promising opportunities like XDefiant, which is set for a pre-season launch on May 21.
Meanwhile, the “Division” series continues with “The Division 2” still active, the mobile game “The Division Resurgence” expected later this year, and a full-scale “Division 3” in development.
