Recent claims from a prominent Twitter leaker suggest that the Watch Dogs series may be “dead and buried,” potentially attributed to the underwhelming performance of Watch Dogs: Legion. The leaker, known as j0nathan, hinted at the demise of the series, hinting at the failure of Legion and its impact on a proposed Battle Royale mode.
Despite these allegations, Ubisoft’s AAA titles generally perform well commercially. The first two games in the Watch Dogs series achieved solid sales figures, with the original game reaching 10 million copies sold in 2014 and Watch Dogs 2 selling 10 million units by March 2020.
Watch Dogs: Legion also saw initial success, selling 1.9 million digital units in its first three days and making the top 20 PlayStation 5 sales in the UK in January 2023. However, the game received mixed reviews from fans, reflected in its user rating of 6.2 on Metacritic compared to Watch Dogs 2’s 7.7.
