Universal Pictures is in the final stages of securing the rights to adapt the iconic video game franchise, The Legend of Zelda, for the big screen. The studio is reportedly in negotiations with Nintendo and the renowned animation studio, Illumination, to bring this highly anticipated project to life.

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Universal is on the verge of closing a significant deal with Nintendo for The Legend of Zelda. Sneider revealed this exciting development on The Hot Mic podcast, stating that Zelda is poised to become the next major franchise collaboration between Illumination and Nintendo. This partnership comes as no surprise to many, given the immense success of the recent Super Mario Bros. Movie, which has surpassed $1 billion in global box office revenue, solidifying its position as the highest-grossing video game movie adaptation to date.

Serving as the highly anticipated sequel to 2017’s Breath of the Wild, the game enjoyed remarkable success, selling over 10 million copies within its first three days of release.

With a rich tapestry of 20 mainline entries in The Legend of Zelda series, there is an abundance of source material to draw upon for the upcoming adaptation. As more information about this exciting project becomes available, be sure to keep an eye out for the latest updates.
