Sony gave a presentation at the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC 2022) that offers us fresh perspectives on its player base. With statistics for the US, EU, Asia, and Japan, the new information presents gaming behaviors by geographical area. Big thanks to Genki for breaking the news; they posted and translated the presentation on Twitter as @Genki JPN.

According to the presentation, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users in the US play an average of 10.7 games annually while earning the fewest trophies. On the other hand, Japanese players play the fewest games—just 5.9 titles annually—while also winning the most trophies. Despite these high medal numbers, the biggest proportion of platinum trophy unlocks are in Asia and the EU.

According to these data, Japanese players are more inclined to persist with a small number of games and play a lot than Americans do. The playtime statistics provide additional support for this assertion. Japanese players will play video games for roughly 2.5 times as long as American players.

How customers decide to buy their games represents a last, intriguing division. In contrast to the other regions, gamers in Japan and the EU are more inclined to purchase entire games on disc alone, while those in the US and Asia are more likely to simply purchase digital copies of games. However, across the board, digital-only purchases outnumber physical-only purchases in every country.
