Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty First Impressions

Today, I dove headfirst into the neon-drenched world of Cyberpunk 2077 as I embarked on a journey with “V” in the Phantom Liberty expansion, I am really looking forward to a cinematic DLC. But before I jump into the cybernetic mayhem, I’ve got some important decisions to make…

Choosing the Difficulty and Lifepath

My adventure begins with the crucial choice of difficulty level. I first contemplated going all-in on “very hard,” but wisely decided to start with “hard” and promised to lower the stakes if the challenge becomes too overwhelming. Next up is selecting my character’s lifepath, and it’s an easy choice – the “Street Kid” lifepath, perfectly aligned with my gritty, urban background.

Customizing Our Protagonist

I then made the decision to create a female character with a touch of “Brown skin,” but a detour into the character customization rabbit hole (Very NSFW) quickly lead to a change of heart, sticking with the default look. After some minor tweaks, my “V” is ready for action, showcasing the game’s incredible character creation options.

Embarking on the Adventure

The game officially kicks off after the events of the “Konpeki Plaza Heist,” marking a pivotal moment in V’s adventure. We’re introduced to the grim reality of Night City and the relentless, no-nonsense world in which the story unfolds.

Respecting the Dialogue

I am committed to letting the game’s dialogue shine, refraining from talking over the in-game conversations to fully immerse myself in the narrative. It’s a thoughtful touch, ensuring that viewers can appreciate the depth of the game’s storytelling.

A Cinematic Experience

One of the standout features of the game that I appreciate is the cinematic quality of Cyberpunk 2077. The impressive production values, renowned celebrity involvement, and immersive world-building make this adventure feel like a high-end film experience.

First-Person Perspective and Mods

I have a burning desire for a third-person perspective, despite the game’s primarily first-person viewpoint. I have seen that some mods offer this option for PC players, and I promise to explore it in the future.

Character Customization and Control Familiarity

I had some hiccups in adjusting to the controls, as I am returning to PS5 after a long hiatus. Nevertheless, I eager to dive into the game and check out this new Relic skill tree unlocked during a early moment with Songbird.

Yellow Highlights and Environmental Design

The discussion around environmental artist and the use of yellow highlights in games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, to guide players through the environment is an interesting one. On one hand, some players said that it knocks the realism out of the experience, my opinion is that I think its perfectly fine, and its use is subtle enough for most players to still navigate the world and not get lost. So I appreciate this design choice, as it helps players find their way in the expansive world.

Exploring Dog Town

As the story progresses, I ventured into Dog Town, a fascinating area of Night City controlled by rogue military units. This decision to occupy a part of the city shows the game’s rich world-building and storytelling.

Engaging with the NPCs

I did some engaging with various NPCs and appreciate the attention to detail in character design and behavior. The game’s world feels vibrant, with even minor characters contributing to the immersive experience.

The Lore of Dog Town

My time in Dog Town provoked some serious questions about the lore, such as what happened to the damaged stadium and the factions vying for control in Night City? These mysteries add depth to the narrative and encourage players to explore the rich lore of Cyberpunk 2077.

The Call to Adventure

As the adventure continues, Madame president prepares to cross into Night City’s airspace, ready to face off with Dog Town mercs. With the fate of the president hanging in the balance, our protagonist is gearing up for an electrifying ride through the sprawling, dystopian cityscape. Get ready for more cybernetic mayhem as we dive deeper into the heart of Night City in the Phantom Liberty expansion of Cyberpunk 2077.
